Pfeifer Huisile Gorge

The new viewing platform

The newly constructed "Pfeifer Huisile" viewing platform is located at the far end of the Ratschingstal Valley near Flading and offers a breathtaking view of two spectacular waterfalls. The platform is named after the legendary "Pfeifer Huisile" – a local mythical figure, said to be a sorcerer connected to dark forces, who, according to legend, once lived in this very region. His birthplace is believed to have stood at the end of the valley in Flading.

The platform is part of the existing "Pfeifer Huisile" themed trail, which begins in Jaufensteg at the exit of the Gilfenklamm Gorge and leads all the way to Flading.

Along the trail, numerous information panels tell the story of the mysterious sorcerer’s life, legends, and deeds.
From the Flading parking area, the approximately 12-meter-long viewing platform can be reached in about 15 minutes on foot via trail no. 12 towards mountain pasture "Klammalm"/summit "Hohe Kreuzspitze".

The platform itself is made of a nature-inspired steel structure that blends harmoniously into the rugged landscape of the gorge. It offers visitors of all ages an intense nature experience: the roar of the water, the view into the depths, the spray on the skin – nature with all the senses.

At the same time, the mystical legendary figure of Pfeifer Huisile is brought to life and made tangible.
With the development of the Pfeifer Huisile Gorge, the Ratschingstal Valley gains another attractive tourist destination focused on water and nature experiences – alongside the Gilfenklamm Gorge in Stange, the Gurgl Gorge in the Jaufental Valley, and the Burkhard Gorge in the Ridnauntal Valley.

The Interreg Project: Cross-border cooperation for sustainable development

The project „Enhancement of Recreational Areas in Ratschings & Trins: Experience Energy and Water” is part of the Interreg V Italy-Austria program and has been implemented as a cross-border cooperation project between the municipality of Trins (Tyrol) and the Ratschings Tourism Cooperative (South Tyrol). The aim of the project is to gently strengthen the region’s tourism potential through nature-based initiatives such as thematic trails, viewing platforms, and informational offerings. The focus is on sustainable development, nature experiences, and the connection between culture and landscape. The project is funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), which promotes cooperation in border regions and aims to ensure the long-term quality of life in the Alpine region.
